WTA - New Haven / SFs: Petra Kvitova def. Sara Errani 61 63

As reported by WTATennis.com, Petra Kvitova and Sara Errani commented on the match:

“I served well tonight and tried to attack the return,” Kvitova said in her post-match press conference. “I wanted to be the player who took the offensive and hit the winners, because if I just push it back, who knows how it would be.”

“I tried everything, but she was playing incredible on the baseline, hitting so strong without many mistakes. It was difficult,” Errani said. “Today was not the best for me, but it was a very good tournament for me, reaching the semifinals.

Sara lost to Petra in straight sets in her previeous meetings, in FedCup and in Australia.

Petra Kvitova just was crowned Emirates Airlines US Open Series champion after beating fellow Czech lefty Lucie Safarova in the QFs to clinch the chance at getting a $1 million bonus on top of the prize money from the tournament if she is the US Open 2012 champion. If she is a runner-up she gets an extra $500,000, semifinalist $250,000, quarterfinalist $125,000, and so on down the rounds.

Petra won her 1st title of the year in Montréal two weeks ago, and reached the SFs in Cincinnati last week.

WTATENNIS.COM reported some days ago Petra’s words interview:

“I’m very proud of this. If someone told me after Wimbledon I would be the champion of the US Open Series, I don’t know what I would have told them.

“I don’t care about the money - money is not the important thing in the world and in life. I’m just really proud I’m the champion, and glad I’ve played a lot of good matches and had great results. I’m in the semifinals here in New Haven too. It’s all important for my confidence going into the US Open next week.”

Let’s hope for the best at the US Open, both for Petra and Sara…
